Mission

The mission of the Westminster Public Schools interscholastic athletic program is to support the needs of the students of WPS by maintain a strong sense of pride, excellence, ethical values, character education and overall student development. Effective programming is executed through the balance of healthy competition, training, and academic excellence. Westminster Public Schools believes that the opportunity for participation in a wide variety of student selected athletics is a vital part of the student's educational experience. Such participation is a privilege that carries with it responsibilities to the school, to the activity, to the community and to the students themselves.  Athletic activities provide lessons in sportsmanship, teamwork and competition are an integral part of team activity.  Athletics activities promote a positive self-image, physical conditioning and contribute to school spirit and district pride.

The District considers all levels of sport except varsity as a developmental program. Varsity teams are competitive. In the non-varsity program, opportunity to participate in scheduled activities is expected for athletes who are members of a team.

Vision

We include everyone! WPS does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, age, religion, creed, marital status or disability in admission to or access to, or treatment or employment in, its programs or activities. WPS is committed and obedient to Title IX.

  • We play fair! WPS will play within the rules and guidelines established by Board of Education and CHSAA.

  • We earn it! Participation in WPS athletics is a privilege and not guaranteed to anyone.

  • We excel with class! We win with class and lose with grace.

The interscholastic athletic program shall be conducted in accordance with existing Board of Education, Colorado High School Activities Association, and league policies and regulations. While the WPS takes great pride in winning, it does not condone "winning at any cost" and discourages any pressures which may tend to neglect good sportsmanship and good mental and physical health.

We will compete fairly and work hard!
